When measuring the body for apparel design and production, it is necessary to have a few key landmarks of which to measure to and from. There are two types of body landmarks, those that are actual points on the body and those that are horizontal circumferencesaround the body. We use both when measuring body dimensions. The key body landmarksused in this guide are illustrated in Sketches 1.1 and 1.2. A further explanation of those landmarks is as follows:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

1.\u00a0Top of Head \u2022<\/strong> The crown of the head.<\/p>

2.\u00a0C.F. Neck \u2022<\/strong> (Center Front Neck):The hollow \u201cpit of the neck\u201d locat-ed between the clavicles (collar bones) at the base of the front neck.<\/p>

3.\u00a0C.B. Neck \u2022<\/strong> (Center Back Neck):The bone at the base of the backneck which protrudes when you tilt your head forward.This is thecervicale or 7th cervical vertebrae.<\/p>

4.\u00a0H.P.S. \u2022<\/strong> (High Point of Shoulder):The point where the shouldermeets the neck at the base of the side of the neck.<\/p>

5.\u00a0Shoulder \u2022<\/strong> The point between where the clavicle (collar bone) ends,you can feel a \u201cknob\u201d there and the outside upper edge of theacromion (shoulder bone).This point feels like an indentation on thearm side of that \u201cknob.\u201d If your finger is at the shoulder point and thearm is raised,the finger does not raise,if your finger comes up withthe arm,then your shoulder point is too far onto the arm.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

6. Bust \u2022<\/strong> (in Women\u2019s wear) or Chest \u2022 (in Men\u2019s wear and Children\u2019s\u00a0wear):The horizontal line at the fullest point of the bust or chest,\u00a0which typically goes over the shoulder blades, under the arms and\u00a0across the nipples.<\/p>

7.Waist \u2022<\/strong> The horizontal line at the natural waist, which is the narrowest\u00a0point around the torso, below the bottom rib and above the hip\u00a0<\/span>bones.<\/p>

8. Hip \u2022<\/strong> The horizontal line at the widest point of the hip, typically\u00a0across the fullest part of the buttocks and over the upper end of the\u00a0thigh bone.<\/p>

9. Crotch \u2022<\/strong> The base of the torso at its center point between the legs.<\/p>

10. Knee \u2022<\/strong> The horizontal line which goes over the protruding bone at\u00a0the inside of the knee and across the kneecap.<\/p>

11. Ankle \u2022<\/strong> The horizontal line that goes across the inside ankle\u2019s most\u00a0prominent point.<\/p>

12. Floor \u2022<\/strong> The soles of the feet.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
